Fantasy Premier League tips – Gameweek 14

The main tip we’d offer for a mid-week fantasy football gameweek is simply to remember to pick your team! It’s an easy one to miss so there will be several players out there hoping they luck out with the previous weekend’s captain. If you are going to remember to pick your team for this round of mid-week Premier League fixtures, we’re backing Chelsea, Norwich and Liverpool – with one eye on the weekend as well!

Despite the disgraceful lack of support for Rafael Benítez from the classless Chelsea fans, the Blues ought to have enough to take three points from West London neighbours Fulham. One thing Rafa needs to do is to shore up Roberto di Matteo’s tactically naïve, defensively shaky Chelsea egos. We know from his Liverpool days that Benítez knows how to organise a defence, which could make César Azpilicueta (£5.6m) a bargain. We’re reluctant to go so far as to suggest that the interim Chelsea boss will be able to get the “best” out of finished “striker” Fernando Torres (£9.5m), but if you do like a bit of a ridiculoulsy huge gamble, you’d at least be getting in early! There’s no need to explain why you want Eden Hazard (£10.1m) in your side and with Chelsea set to play Fulham and West Ham, he could really rack up a few points for your fantasy side during the next couple of gameweeks.

Norwich City have been in pretty fine form of late and while it will be far from easy facing a Southampton side that has just enjoyed successive Premier League victories, we’d not be surprised to see the Canaries come away with the points. With a game at home to struggling Sunderland to come, it could be worth looking at Javier Garrido (£4.7m), Sébastien Bassong (£4.5m) and Anthony Pilkington (£5.7m).

Liverpool have been becoming less of a joke in recent weeks and have even threatened to become a meaningful side once again. They’ve not got a great recent record at White Hart Lane, but their displays against some of the stronger Premier League sides this season have been encouraging, so we’d not write them off. And, with Southampton visiting Anfield at the weekend, it could be worth getting on the Liverpool bandwagon. There aren’t many defenders in better form right now than Sánchez José Enrique (£5.8m), while it’s also worth noting that he has been pushed up to the left wing in recent games by Brendan Rodgers. At £5.6m, 17-year-old Raheem Sterling remains the bargain of the Liverpool side, while you might as well jump on the Luis Suárez (£10.4m) bandwagon, given the form he’s in at the minute.

Others worth considering

While you could argue that backing Chelsea, Norwich and Liverpool for the midweek fixtures could prove a slight gamble, one thing that’s certain is that the Manchester clubs will both ease their way to three points against West Ham and Wigan. You’ll have to splash out, but in this case you will get what you pay for. Robin Van Persie (£13.7), Wayne Rooney (£11.7m), David Silva (£9.4m), Carlos Tévez (£9.5m) and Sergio Agüero (£11m) are all likely to rack up some points in this gameweek.

Best of luck
