Fantasy Premier League tips – Gameweek 15

Norwich have improved of late and should be too strong for Sunderland – image from thetimes.co.uk

A few of our recommended changes from Gamweek 14 were thrown out there with one eye on this weekend’s fixtures. Admittedly, the Norwich, Liverpool and Chelsea players we recommended won’t have done you much good in midweek fantasy football, and while we’re wary of copping out, we would rehash some of the same advice for this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures. Norwich will be favourites at home to struggling Sunderland, while Liverpool will surely have enough to overcome Southampton at Anfield. It’ll take a brave person to back Chelsea at the moment, but controversially, we’d put our money on them at Upton Park this afternoon.

Others worth considering

We’ve been steering clear of backing Manchester City defenders this season, although perhaps it could be time to begin splashing out on Roberto Mancini’s back line, given that they do possess the best defensive record in the Premier League. They do seem to be getting their act together and defending seems to be becoming more important to Premier League sides than it was at the start of the campaign. With that in mind, we’ve noted the impressive form of Joe Hart (£6.9m), Matija Nastasić (£5.5m) and Vincent Kompany (£7.2m). They finally seem to be racking up the points that you’d have expected them to during the early stages of the season.

If you’re ready to splash out on midfield players, you can’t go far wrong with Santi Cazorla (£9.5m), David Silva (£9.4m) and Gareth Bale (£9.9m) right now.

Of course, these kind of changes will leave you needing some players to help balance the books. At £4.6m, Jason Puncheon will certainly free up a few pounds, while up top, Rickie Lambert (£6m) and Adam le Fondre (£4.8m) don’t seem to be struggling to find the goals at Premier League level. Meanwhile, Jon Walters (£6.3m) is always worth considering as he is classed as a midfielder but tends to play further forward.

Best of luck
