Bobby Moore at Wembley, Charlton, Law and Best at Old Trafford, Bremner at Elland Road, Clough and Taylor at Pride Park and.. Michael Jackson at Craven Cottage?! On hearing that there was to be a statue outside Craven Cottage, Fulham fans may have been thinking Johnny Haynes, Maurice Cook, maybe Sir Bobby Robson or even George Best? You could have be forgiven for thinking that the unveiling of a Michael Jackson statue outside Fulham’s ground was an April Fool’s joke but Mohammed Al Fayed is confident it will be well received.
“People will queue to come and visit it from all over the UK and it is something that I and everybody else should be proud of,” the Fulham chairman said. I admire clubs erecting statues to honour their legends but I can understand the Fulham fans being less than enthusiastic about this. What next, Mike Ashley with a Cheryl Cole tribute at St James’ Park? Let’s keep football stadiums for football people.
Having said that, with those quick feet, perhaps Michael Jackson could have become quite a dangerous footballer…
