Not a good day for Manchester City and Roberto Mancini as they were completely dominated by a superb Liverpool performance which saw the arrival of Andy Carroll’s first goal, and a claim in Liverpool’s third goal.Andy Carroll struck a sweet half volley after just 13 minutes to put the home side ahead and barely a minute later, Manchester City captain and club carrier bag Carlos Tevez limped off making a snapping gesture with his hands and holding his hamstring, it looked painful. Balotelli was his replacement.
City offered nothing without key players like Silva, Tevez and De Jong and Liverpool extended their dominance with a calmly placed finished by Kuyt. This goal put the Dutchman on 9 goals for the season, and joint top scorer in the league with Fernando “Cant buy a goal at Chelsea” Torres.
Suarez was once again all over the pitch, chasing everything and tricking defenders, although one of his quieter games, he still held a major influence over the match. An early first time strike was superbly turned onto the post by Joe Hart in the City goal after a simple through ball from Carroll dissected the City back line.
Liverpool’s third came moments after the second, a teasing cross to which Carroll may or may not have got the final touch to put the ball in the back of the net and send the home fans loopy. 3-0 at half time and in truth should have been more.
Liverpool played out a professional second half and City were unable to show anything going forward, a drive by Yaya Toure was about the only chance of any note from City. David Silva and De Jong both came on in the second half, and provided more than was originally on show, and “a back injury” had Balotelli’s number being shown on the fourth official’s board for the second time in the game.
Mancini after the game admitted he had made mistakes, and apologised to the fans, what these mistakes were however, he did not want to say, my guess, buying a load of pre-madonna players who think they are bigger than the club.
City now have a fight on their hands as Spurs look to fight for that European position yet again.
