The football world was shaken yesterday by the extremely sad news that current Wales boss Gary Speed has died at the age of 42.
Gary Speed was a true legend of the modern day game, and by all accounts as nice a man as you could ever hope to meet.
He was a true professional and made Premier League history by becoming the first player to appear in 500 matches in spells for Leeds, Bolton Newcastle and Everton.
Given the circumstances surrounding his death, hopefully we can all do better to remember that football isn’t more important than life and death.
If indeed it was depression that led to yesterday’s events, hopefully as a society we can become more understanding and offer help to individuals suffering from this terrible affliction.
The British game lost one of its all time great’s yesterday, and our thoughts are with Gary’s family and friends at this time.
RIP. Gary Speed 1969 -2011
