It seems like footballers and twitter do not go hand in hand, after the (ridiculous in our opinion) fine handed down to Ryan Babel for posting a picture of Howard Webb in a Manchester United shirt, then Carlton Cole’s comments after the England v Ghana match, Wazza has been the next one to get involved, seemingly having a “disagreement” with a fan, who he then offered to come down to the training ground.
One Tweet Stated: “hope u turn up if u don’t gonna tell everyone ur scared u little nit. I’ll be waiting.”
The opposing Twitter account has been deleted already, possibly in fear of the following :
“I’ll put u asleep within 10 seconds”.
With over half a million followers, Rooney then of course put it all right with a nice elegant speech highlighting his wrong doing: “Haha bit of banter”.
We like a bit of banter as much as the next person, but its amazing the risks these footballers will take. Being in the public eye 24/7 cannot be easy, but this is the price to pay, you cannot say or do anything that might offend 1 in 10,000 people, and in today’s world where everyone seems to be getting all PC and Health and Safety crazy, these are risky moves, the fact is, this “fight” would have not have been on the cards and would not happen, think of the insurance!
And seriously, Ryan Babel’s fine for posting the picture of Howard Webb was truly outrageous, sure it was “only” £10k, and to a player of that standing, he probably made that money in the time it took to post the image. But this just shows that some people have lost their sense of humor, I dread to think where the world is going at this rate, but Babel, we salute you for at least trying to act the way the rest of the population do.
