For Gameweek 16, it’s worth noting that both Sunderland and Reading will be involved in a double gameweek. Of course, their fixtures aren’t exactly looking easy, particularly given their current league positions and poor form. We’d avoid loading your fantasy side with Mackems and Royals, but then we’d also be careful about ditching any of them too soon.
As far as Reading are concerned, Adam le Fondre could be worth considering at £4.9m, while Adam Johnson (£6.8m) could be worth a gamble, despite having a fairly disappointing start to his Sunderland career.
Elsewhere, the remaining Premier League fixtures all look tough to call. There’s the top of the table clash between the Manchester clubs, while West Brom visit an Arsenal side deprived of confidence, at a time where they themselves are enjoying one their best ever Premier League start. Then there’s Liverpool, who finally seem to have found a bit of form, up against a tough to beat West Ham side at Upton Park, while stuttering Fulham take on a similarly stuttering Newcastle side at the Cottage. When it’s tough to call, we’d usually give the edge to the home side.
We’re also controversially backing Arsenal to enjoy a mini-revival during the next couple of gameweeks. They certainly won’t be expecting West Brom to be easy at this time, but the Baggies have lost their last two and have won just once at Arsenal since 1983. The Gunners are also likely to enjoy forthcoming trips to Reading and Wigan in the next couple of gameweeks, so we’re keeping faith with Santi Cazorla (£9.5m), while Olivier Giroud is looking like the first choice centre forward at the moment and could rack up a few points. Thomas Vermaelen (£6.8m) will take up his preferred position in central defence for Arsenal with Laurent Koscielny out injured and he is often as much of a goal threat as the front men!
Others worth considering
Given the controversial nature of the advice to back Arsenal, you’d also be wise to bring in some of the form players to your fantasy team. Asmir Begović (£5.4m) is looking like a decent goalkeeping choice, particularly for Stoke’s home games. Sánchez José Enrique (£6m) and Daniel Agger (£6.4m) are also slowly racking up the points as Liverpool continue to improve.
As far as attacking players are concerned, you can’t really afford to be without Marouane Fellani (£7.7m), Miguel Michu (£7.8m) and Jermain Defoe (£8.3m), given their impressive recent form. These boys don’t exactly come cheap, so we also like Jason Puncheon (£4.6m) and Sébastien Bassong (£4.7m)
As far as the big game goes, we backed Carlos Tévez (£9.4m) and Wayne Rooney (£11.8m) a couple of weeks ago. It’s not an easy one to call, but of course it wouldn’t be surprising to see Tévez hurt his former employers, while The Roon usually enjoys scoring against Citeh.
Best of luck
