Last week, we had one eye on both West Ham and Arsenal and we gave them a mention in the ‘Others worth considering’ section. Well Big Sam and Arsène Wenger’s troops are the two sides we’re backing for the next couple of weeks, with a return of six points out of six for each certainly not out of the question. Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City look to be getting well into their stride, while table-topping Chelsea face a stern test away at Spurs and home to Manchester United up next for Bob Matthews.
Based on the way Norwich have been defending this season, Arsenal could run riot at Carrow Road on Saturday evening. A fair few fantasy players will have already brought in Santi Cazorla (£9.4m). Everything goes through him, while Lukas Podolski (£8.6m) has found his feet very quickly at Arsenal. Although it’s injuries that have allowed Carl Jenkinson (£5.1m) and Vito Mannone (£4.5m) their places this season, they have proved to be decent, steady defensive options.
West Ham’s solid start to the campaign has not come as a complete surprise, given Big Sam’s Premier League experience. Jussi Jääskeläinen has proved to be a fairly reliable goalkeeping option this season at £4.9m. You also don’t want to be missing out on former Newcastle pair Andy Carroll (£8.3m) and Kevin Nolan (£6.3m), with Southampton’s rocky defence visiting Upton Park.
While no team has looked unbeatable this season, Manchester City’s comfortable win over Sunderland showed that Roberto Mancini’s side is getting well into its stride. And with a games against West Brom and Swansea to come, you’d back Citeh to get themselves right back on top. With Sergio Agüero (£11.1m) back in the frame, the other attacking options seem like a bit of a gamble. Having said that, if you are looking to take on a bit of a gamble, we’d look at Samir Nasri (£8.2m) and even James Milner (£6.1m), with no one in tremendous form among the City midfield.
Others worth considering
Liverpool haven’t exactly looked terrific this season, although you’d have to back them at home to Reading. Steven Gerrard (£9.4m) could prove a valuable acquisition for the next couple of gameweeks. Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavić (£8.4m) and Luis Suárez (£9.6m) have looked in great for recently.
As for the more moderately priced players hitting decent form, we like Ricky Lambert (£6.3m) and James Morrison (£6m).
Best of luck
